Have you ever experienced Windows 10 downloading a major share of data for its own updates? You might be surprised to know that your monthly quota has been exhausted without using that much huge amount of data. Windows 10 doesn’t have an option to shut down updates which consume data. So no solution? Don’t worry there are solutions for almost every problems. Or at least to this problem.
Set your internet connection as metered connection
This will normally solve your issue. How to set your internet connection as a metered connection? How often should you have to do it? Here is the step by step guide.
Step 1. Click network settings
Click network settings link on network icon in taskbar
Step 2. Go to Advanced Options of the current connection
This can be Wi-fi, ethernet or bluetooth connection.
Step 3. Toggle the switch for ‘Set as metered connection’ .
This will change the connection to a metered connection. That means, the data is valuable to you and so asks Windows 10 not to use data from this connection for purposes other than what you wish to use it for.
However, you will have to set all connections you have, as metered connections, to make this work. If you are on a free network, you may allow windows to download updates too. This is recommended because updates make your system stable and more resistant to vulnerabilities.
