Seen professional looking photos and videos with title-shot with my mobile phone and ever wondered how? Your phone camera unit has enough juice to take good quality photos. What it lacks is filters, fancy effects, complete manual control of settings like white balance, ISO, shutter speed, colour saturation etc. Apart from manual control, intelligent automatic modes also helps a lot. Many apps have variety of effects and allow manual controls of your phone camera. We have hand-picked the top performers that a Youtuber or instagram fan should try.
1. Camera FV-5 Free lite version and 3$ for Pro version
This is my favorite manual camera app. It allows DSLR like controls including live histogram, burst mode, light metering, time lapse setting, automatic exposure bracketing, RAW image capture in DNG format if the hardware supports etc. Basic settings on ISO, shutter speed are already there even in the free version. Free version allows capturing image in a smaller format forcing you to buy the full version.
2. Cinema FV-5 (Free lite version and 3$ for pro version)
This is the video camera app I will recommend you for obvious reasons. With all manual adjustments to your videos, Pro version allows much more. I use it to connect bluetooth headset to use its microphone for shooting video tutorials. Features includes various focus types, ISO adjustment, brightness and contrast adjusting, custom file paths, live histogram, custom file sizes with custom bit-rates in videos and audios etc.
3. Footej (Free, in-app purchases)
Another video capture app for android, Footej has enough power for shooting videos as you wish. Not so professional looking with all ugly manual controls, this is the cute replacement for Cinema FV-5. It is free for those who wish to use it for non-professional purposes. For extra additions, buy addons through in-app purchases.
4. Camera MX (free)
For the fancy freak, Camera Mx is the only app you need if all you want is a high quality camera app with customisable filters and color effects. It allows manual controls of almost all settings and along-side adjustments in videos too. Videos can be trimmed and edited without loss of quality. Images can be saved in different sizes and resolutions.
5. Open camera (Perhaps the best free app)
This is one among the best camera apps for android and the best part is it is free and without ads. With a lot many color filters, scene modes, remote shutter operation with whistle, widgets etc. it has the functionality of many paid premium apps without costing a penny. A must-have for any serious photographer. Apart from features, it is open-source too, which means you can add or change its functionality if you know enough coding.
Filmic pro is the gold standard app for video shooting. You can control anything and everything about your camera including time lapse, aspect ratios, file sizes, bit rates, ISO, histogram, lighting, contrast, focus and a lot more. The only downside I can find is the price. It costs 10$, which is about 3 times of that of Cinema FV-5, which also gives similar results like Filmic Pro.
7. Youcam perfect (For selfies and in-phone editing)
Youcam perfect is the best selfie app for android with a lot of beautification options like slimming, skin texture, skin color, skin tone adjustments. However, manual adjustments are not sophisticated as in other apps. It is free for basic use with a lot of addons through in-app purchases.
